Privacy

Last updated September 2, 2026. No accounts, no cookies, and the only thing you can hand me here is an email address for the newsletter.

Nobody has an account here

No login, no profile, no comments, nothing you type is stored anywhere I control, the newsletter box is the one form on the site.

Three analytics scripts, none of them sets a cookie

GoatCounter counts page views off a copy of count.js I serve myself rather than someone else's CDN, no cookie, and per view it sends the path, referrer, title, screen width, query string, and a bot guess. Add #toggle-goatcounter to any URL here and your views stop counting. The other two are Vercel's, Web Analytics and Speed Insights, same-origin through /_vercel/ and cookieless, their privacy policy covers their end. There is no cookie banner because nothing here sets one.

The newsletter, and what Buttondown gets

Your address goes to Buttondown with whichever category tags you left on, under their privacy policy, and I use it for one weekly digest of what got added here, drafted automatically and sent by hand. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or mail me and I will take you off. The IP rate limit on the form lives in memory for sixty seconds, never stored.

The two feed functions read my stuff, not yours

One reads my public Letterboxd profile, the other my own Apple Music history for the cards on /now, neither takes input from you or stores anything about you.

What loads from off this domain

The one video embed is click-to-play, so nothing loads from Google until you click but the thumbnail off img.youtube.com, and the player then comes from www.youtube-nocookie.com. Posters come from Letterboxd's image host and album art from Apple's, plain image requests that see your IP. Links out are other people's sites and rules.

What your browser keeps

One sessionStorage key, sw_boot_seen, set the first time the boot animation plays so it stops replaying, plus the GoatCounter opt-out flag if you set it, and that is the lot.

The apps have their own policies

This page covers the website only.

If any of this turns out to be wrong

If this page and the site disagree, mail me at sigwrench@gmail.com and I will fix whichever one is wrong, the page or the site.
